Mark Mackey

Livestock Marketing Association

A Kansas Native, Mackey grew up in a multi-faceted livestock operation as a livestock and dairy heifer replacement dealer, cattle feeder, and rancher.

He attended Kansas State University on an athletic scholarship to play football, graduating in 1982 with a bachelors degree in animal science with an emphasis on business.

Devoted to his faith and family, Mark wed his wife Shelly in 1989 and are now blessed with Morgan Mackey Schulze (Kolten), Marisa Mackey Schlogl (Kurt), Maggie Mackey Hilmgren (Ray), Joe Joe Mackey, and Ford Holmgren (Grandson).

Mackey began working for LMA in 1983, as a regional executive officer, representing the states of Colorado, Kansas, Nebraska and Wyoming. He also previously served as LMA’s vice president for member sales and services before taking the reigns as Chief Executive Officer in 2004.

As CEO of LMA, Mackey steered the organization into an era of unprecedented membership growth, new service development and policy representation that cemented LMA and its member livestock auction market and dealer businesses as leaders in the industry. His quiet leadership and unwavering support of the auction method of selling livestock established LMA as the preeminent organization representing the marketing sector. Mackey's leadership style has been critical in bringing together other livestock industry groups for the purpose of finding common ground, identifying issues and seeking out solutions for the betterment of the livestock industry as a whole.
